WFDownloader App starts without any text being shown on Linux

WFDownloader App without any text displayed

Some users of WFDownloader App have reported that when they start the application, no text is displayed for them. So far, it has only been reported by those using Linux specifically Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Arch Linux. See the complete set of images showing the text display issue. It's not clear what causes the issue. It could be a missing system font on the OS or some sort of font incompatibility with the application. It is a bug that couldn't be reproduced on our side. Fortunately, there is a simple fix that has worked for all users that reported the issue. Note that this fix only works if you downloaded and use the Linux version of WFDownloader App and not the cross-platform.

  1. After extracting the downloaded file, enter the WFDownloaderApp_Linux_BETA folder.
  2. Verify that you can see the "Start.sh" file in the folder (or else you're in the wrong folder). If so, open the terminal here and type the following command below.
    jre/bin/java -Dprism.text=t2k -Dprism.lcdtext=false -jar WFDownloaderApp.jar
  3. The app should now start with all texts displayed. If you like, you could save it as "Start2.sh" in the same folder as the other.

If this worked for you or not, please indicate so in the comment section below. Thanks for reading. Also, share this post with others having this issue.
